An unusually sweet and affecting antique Georgian era mourning ring in memory of 'E. Lawson ob 6th Sept 1833 aet 59'. We have been able to ascertain that Elizabeth Lawson was buried on 13th September 1833 in the historic parish of Saint James Garlickhythe in London. She lived at 16 Garlick Hill and her death record states that she passed from the dropsy.
Keeping memories close with a specially dedicated jewel was an accepted and intimate way of showing and mourning loss in Georgian and Victorian times and one which brought some comfort to the grieving. In this once beloved ring, all is a petite prettiness hand crafted to beautiful effect with a scarce and charming octagonal Crystal panel holding a section of carefully woven hair behind it, framed in lustrous wild Pearls; in this case representing tears. Of 18ct Gold with decorative Acanthus shoulders (symbolising eternity) and a reeded band, the ring size is an 'M' or '6.25' as is and no adjustment is possible.
The box shown is not the original and not included in the sale however we do have a similar purple velveteen box which we will present her in.
Most of our rings can be adjusted to fit for free, this can be done on purchase by making a note in the order form if you know the size, or at a later date if it is a gift. You can download our handy ring sizing guide here, but don't hesitate to contact us if you need further help with this. If visiting us size adjustments can usually be done in around an hour-ish.
