A beautifully hand made antique Victorian pendant in the Etruscan Revival style and dating to around the 1870's. The design of a juicy pear shaped drop Almandine Garnet symbolises fertility and fruitfulness. The pretty pink toned Almandine Garnet looks so opulent mounted in rich 15ct Gold with hand worked leaves and tendrils skilfully modelled. 15ct Gold was a standard used solely in Britain between the years of 1854-1932 and this fineness was generally used in high quality pieces, so it is attractive to collectors.
The inspiration for this piece would have been the many gold treasures dating back to the ancient Etruscan era (700-300 BC) which were being discovered in Italian tombs and shown in exhibitions leading to the emergence of the Etruscan Revival as Victorian jewellers in England sought to recreate the style for history loving aesthetes. Craftsmen employed considerable skill to make finely detailed pieces using revived gold working techniques observed in these ancient jewels.
We've found a vintage 9ct Gold rope chain which we feel matches colour wise and flatters the design. It measures 20 inches in length. The pendant measures 4cm lengthwise.
