An unusual and distinctive antique Ruby and Rose-cut Diamond band ring in the style popular during the Gothic Revivalist period led by Auguste Pugin in the mid 19th century, a thoughtful and original conception reflecting an architectural inspiration. We imagine her worn with crumpled velvets poring over historical illuminated manuscripts. Episcopal rings worn by the clergy oft show a red gemstone to symbolise the blood of Christ, this was a time when men and women of art and thought who could afford to wore more decorative rings to express their inclination.
She is entirely hand made in 18ct yellow Gold with a beautiful mattified patina which adds to the allure; the delicious hand faceted Rubies are a bright hot pink and most definitely from the old mines; ornamented with exquisite squared goldwork set with miniature hand faceted Rose Cut Diamonds.
The full hallmark inside was applied at Birmingham and dates it to 1876 and also shows a maker's mark which may indicate it being made by White and Hawkins of Legge Lane in Birmingham. It is a ring size 'L' or '5.5' as is we could alter a little to suit.
Most of our rings can be adjusted to fit for free, this can be done on purchase by making a note in the order form if you know the size, or at a later date if it is a gift.
