Loved and lost in the reign of George IV, this sweet pin is dedicated in hand engraved script on the reverse to 'Margaret Barron Ob 13th Mar 1828 Aet 25'. The legend, In Memory Of is expressed in a Gothic font enamelled in black to the surround of the rock crystal compartment holding a plaited section of her hair.
As yet we have not been able to find any information regarding this young lady but it is enough to know that this brooch would have been a cherished reminder of a young life cut short and we imagine would have been worn as such by perhaps her mother or sister. Measures 22mm by 17mm. The metal tests to 18ct gold and the repousse scrolled detailing to the frame is most beautiful.
